New River Dramatists
is an ambitious project dedicated to inspiring, supporting and developing
excellence in what is written for Theater, Film and Television. These
venues have tremendous potential to contribute ideas; express opinions,
provoke debate and change in society.
As a research and development center, New River Dramatists offers an atmosphere
where work ethic and support from other writers, directors and actors
combine to inspire the writer to achieve their best work from concept
to completion.
New River writers have achieved spectacular honors. In 2007, the
author and playwright N. Scott Momaday was among nine recipients of the
National Medal of Arts, the nation's highest honor for artistic excellence;
Denis Johnson was awarded the National Book Award; Cassandra Medley won
the August Wilson Prize; and John Mighton was awarded the $100,000 Simonovitch
Prize.
